Thursday 18th October 2018 come and meet the Occupational Therapists…

So what do Occupational Therapist do?

Occupational Therapists help people to live life their way. When physical or mental illness, or the effects of ageing stop you doing some activities – whether it’s getting washed or going back to work, or doing the fun things such as socialising – this affects your health and wellbeing. We can work with you to find different ways of carrying out activities to help you live life your way and we will be bringing some of our small equipment to your surgery in the morning to show you how. Drop in and say hello and find out about our service.

Health and Social Care Act 2012

Health and Social Care ( H&SC ) Act 2012

Within the terms of the Health and Social Care Act 2012, a singular authorised body known as the Health and Social Care Information Centre ( HSCIC ), has the automatic right to access medical data from your GP's electronic medical records. ( see number 1. Care Data tab ).

Practices are required to notify patients of this data extraction. At Grove Road Surgery, we initially undertook this notification via our March / April 2013 newsletter but accept that this was outlining what this Act was enabling and what it meant to you as patients. It also was a taster for what was to come.

The start date for data extraction is now here and again via this website, our October / November surgery newsletter and posters startegically placed around the surgery are again informing you the patient.

Below are two PDF documents which help to outline this further, these are also available within the Care Data tab.

Patient Frequently Asked Questions Patient FAQ's

Initially the data to be extracted are:-

  • NHS numbers
  • date of birth
  • postcode only
  • gender
  • information about referrals
  • NHS prescriptions
  • Other clinical data - the term other is as yet completely undefined

We are reassured that data will be through " safe havens " and the Data Protection Act prevents this information being used by any other parties.

The data from your GP records will also be linked to hospital data, thereby making the data much more complete, meaningful and usable.
